Ciao Python, Hola Go!
I am using the Firefox NoScript Add-On http://noscript.net/ and put JS from googlesyndication.com (and lots of other sides) into its JS black list. Makes some work as many websites need acknowledging their scripts sources, but that's ok for me. Like a cam-detector ;-)
Like the cam-detector!!
Thanks for pointing out NoScript -- I only worry that it might be a bit too technical for *most* users =(
But good idea for the technical readers of this blog to try out...
PS. Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat the other day...
To enable wider adoption of this boycott by non-techies like me, it would be handy if you could include in the above some really simple "dafty-proof" instructions on updating the hosts file.
I located mine using the instructions from Wikipedia, but wasn't sure from the above description whether to paste one or both of the above lines ["127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com" and "127.0.0.1 googlesyndication.com"] into the hosts file... And whether to simply paste them at the end, or in place of the line which currently reads "127.0.0.1 localhost"?
Cheers
Hannah
Thanks for that. I've updated the instructions slightly -- is it clearer now?
I think it would be good to actually specify the location of the hosts file, but I fear that might get a bit too technical too quickly -- especially given the different platforms/routers/etc. =(
Hopefully the link to the Wikipedia article is good enough?
